Special  tax and fee considerations for Canada

When using MyMalls to ship your good to Canada, there are three categories of fees to consider:

  1. MyMalls handling fees. These are described on the pricing page of our website.

  2. Canadian import duties.

  3. DHL specific fees, which are described below.

DHL refer to the recipient of an incoming package as the “Importer of Record,” or IOR. The fees that DHL charge the IOR depend on whether or not the IOR has setup a “Power of Attorney” that allows DHL to clear the package on behalf of the IOR.

  • If DHL has a Power of Attorney for the IOR, then the fees are 2.5% of the Canadian import duties, with a minimum of 10.00 CAN$ .

  • If DHL does not have a Power of Attorney for the IOR, then the fees are the same 2.5% of the Canadian import duties, with a minimum of 10.00 CAN$ —PLUS and additional Cash-on-Delivery (COD) or On-Demand-Delivery (ODD, see below) fee of 4.25 CAN$.

If you are going to be making regular shipments to Canada, it may be worthwhile to setup a POA with DHL, which can be done at the DHL Canada website.

As a final note to Canadian MyMalls customers — DHL Canada provide a service to all customers there called “On-Demand-Delivery”, or ODD. In addition to text-based delivery process notifications, DHL allow package recipients to pay their duties and fees conveniently online, at the DHL website.
